RUACH - new Jewish tunes -

Ruach 5763EITZ CHAYIM HEE
Mah Tovu
Ruach 5763

Hebrew Text: Proverbs 3:17-18
Music & English Text: Steve Brodsky

[Steve Brodsky writes:] The chorus of this song came to me in the shower – where inspiration often strikes – and it was completed in about ten minutes. It’s just a simple, fun song that celebrates the joy of Torah and lent itself perfectly to Mah Tovu’s 3-part harmonies. Josh’s [Zweiback, also of Mah Tovu] brother Adam called it, “the feel-good hit of the summer of 1996.”

CHORUS
Eitz chayim hi lamachazikim ba
v'tomcheha m'ushar.
D'racheha darchei noam,
v'chol n'tivoteha shalom.

VERSE 1
The Torah is a tree of life to them that hold it fast,
and all of its supporters are happy.
Its ways are ways are pleasantness and all its paths are peace.
Eitz chayim hi.

CHORUS

VERSE 2
The Torah holds the stories of the glories of our past,
and tells of our redemption from slavery.
Within it lie the secrets of our people's way of life.
Eitz chayim hi.
