RUACH - new Jewish tunes -

Ruach 5763AL SHLOSHA
Rick Recht
Ruach 5763

Text: Pirkei Avot 1:2

[Rick Recht writes:] Al Shlosha was one of the first Jewish tunes I wrote. After explaining to a guitar student that you can create all kinds of different, meaningful melodies for text, I randomly chose the words of Al Shlosha as an example. Today when playing it in concerts, I teach the sign language for Al Shlosha , which helps me to think about the words and the three things that I stand for. I invite you to do the same.

Al sh'loshah, sh'loshah d'varim,
Al sh'loshah d'varim,
Al sh'loshah, sh'loshah d'varim
Ha-olam, ha-olam omeid,
Ha-olam, ha-olam omeid:

Al haTorah v'al ha-avodah
V'al g'milut chasadim.
Al haTorah v'al ha-avodah
V'al g'milut chasadim.

On three things, on three things,
On three things the world stands.
On three things, on three things,
Ha-olam, ha-olam omeid,
Ha-olam, ha-olam omeid.
